LEBANON, Tenn. (July 15, 2007) - Canadian Club driver Dario Franchitti crossed the finish line in second place Sunday in the Firestone Indy 200 at Nashville Superspeedway. Franchitti leads the IndyCar Series championship by 34 points over second place.
On the first lap of the race, Franchitti charged past Dixon to take the lead. For 87 laps, Franchitti held onto that lead and looked as if he was going to win his fourth race of the season until lapped traffic allowed Dixon and Dan Wheldon to pass him. Franchitti took little time getting around Wheldon to move back into second. The race came down to a five-lap shootout between Franchitti and Dixon, but with four lapped cars between the two, Franchitti ran a few laps short of catching Dixon.
Dixon won his second-straight race of the season. Franchitti's teammates Danica Patrick and Marco Andretti finished third and fifth, respectively, while Sam Hornish Jr. finished fourth. Next up on the 17-race IndyCar Series schedule is the inaugural Honda 200 from Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Live broadcast coverage of the race can be seen on ABC Sports Sunday, July 22, at 1:30 p.m. (EDT). The race can also be heard live on the exclusive home of the IndyCar Series, XM Satellite Radio channel 145.
Dario Franchitti, #27 Canadian Club Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"The Canadian Club car had a good start and got by Scott (Dixon) right away. We were happy up front there. Then we had lapped traffic three-wide in front of us. And that was it. Scott got a good run on us and passed us. From then on, we were struggling to get back up to him. We just got screwed in traffic all day. We'll just have to see what happens next week."
