WEST ALLIS, Wis. (June 3, 2007) - Dario Franchitti, driver of the #27 Canadian Club car, drove from the 10th starting position through the field to grab his second runner-up and fifth consecutive top-five finish of the season Sunday at The Milwaukee Mile. With the second-place finish, Franchitti took the lead in the IndyCar Series championship by three points over Dan Wheldon.
Coming off a victory at Indianapolis, Franchitti returned to Milwaukee determined to win back-to-back events. Despite starting in the middle of the field, Franchitti quickly moved into the top five where he remained for the majority of the event. After race leader, Helio Castroneves brought out the caution flag with just 25 laps remaining, Franchitti moved back into the top five after running in sixth for a short time. Franchitti remained patient with the finish rapidly approaching and moved past Wheldon and Sam Hornish Jr. to move into second with just six laps remaining.
Franchitti's teammate Tony Kanaan captured his second victory of the season and second consecutive win at The Milwaukee Mile. Franchitti was followed by Wheldon, Scott Dixon and Vitor Meira rounding out the top five, respectively.
The IndyCar Series schedule continues next weekend at Texas Motor Speedway with the Bombardier Learjet 550 on Saturday, June 9. Live coverage of the event can be seen on ESPN2 beginning at 9:30 p.m. (EDT) and can be heard on XM Satellite Radio channel 145, the exclusive home of the IndyCar Series.
Dario Franchitti, #27 Canadian Club Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"We had too much understeer to start in the Canadian Club car. We expected a slower pace for the race with more stop and start. It was hard to get positions on the restart with the heavy traffic, but when we got caught back up, my car was very good. It was very quick on its own and we worked very hard at each stop to make it better. By the end, the car was quite good. To finish second to Tony (Kanaan) is great. He drove a fantastic race to come back from where he did and I am really proud of the team to get a '1-2' today."
