FRANCHITTI THIRD IN SONOMA; NOW TRAILS DIXON BY 4 POINTS

SONOMA, Calif. (Aug. 26, 2007) - Canadian Club driver Dario Franchitti finished third in Sunday's Motorola Indy 300 at Infineon Raceway. Franchitti now trails Scott Dixon by four points in the IndyCar Series championship. Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan is in third, trailing Franchitti by 58 points.

Franchitti's day started in dominating fashion as he led the first 22 laps of the race before the first round of green-flag pit stops. After all stops had been completed, Franchitti had retaken the lead and continued to pull away from the field through the final round of pit stops. With just 12 laps remaining, Franchitti made slight contact with teammate Marco Andretti, which caused damage to Franchitti's front wing and brought out a full-course caution. Despite the damage, the Canadian Club car remained on the track to continue to fight for the win. On the ensuing restart, Franchitti moved to the third position behind Dixon and Helio Castroneves. Franchitti was unable to regain any positions in the final laps of the race and took the checkered flag in third.

Dixon won the 80-lap event with Castroneves finishing second. Kanaan and Sam Hornish Jr. rounded out the top five in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Next for the IndyCar Series is the inaugural Detroit Indy Grand Prix presented by Firestone on Sunday, Sept. 2, at The Raceway of Belle Isle. Live television coverage will be provided by ABC Sports beginning at 3:30 p.m. (EDT). The event can also be heard live on XM Satellite Radio channel 145, the exclusive home of the IndyCar Series and the “Andretti Green Racing Hour.”

Dario Franchitti, #27 Canadian Club Dallara/Honda/Firestone
“The day was going really well for the Canadian Club team until Marco (Andretti) and I got together in Turn 1. Tony (Kanaan) and I had a similar situation on the stop before that and Tony opened up the door and gave me the room. I really want to look at it and talk to Marco. We're teammates. We look after each other and that shouldn't happen. I'm going to talk with him, look at the video and we'll see from there.”
