·         Numerous cars (including the top three Chevrolets) will be penalized 10 grid positions for the start of the race for unapproved engine changes, moving Franchitti to pole and Dixon to the fifth starting spot.
·         Dixon made it to round 2 but was black-flagged for a transmission issue which caused a fire on his car on course.
·         It will mark Franchitti's best-ever starting spot at Long Beach after starting second twice (1999, 2009).
·         The last time Franchitti started first was at Loudon in 2010.
·         It is the 15th time Team Target will start first on a street course.

TCGR Quoteboard

Dario Franchitti:  “In the Firestone Fast 6 we knew where we’d be starting regardless of what time we did, but we kind of wanted to earn it.  We didn’t quite have it in the car.  So we’ll go back tomorrow and we’ll see what happens.”

Target Chip Ganassi Racing will compete in the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Sunday, April 15 (3:30 PM ET, NBC Sports Network).
